It is said that Love (Erōs) is the first of all Gods but this is an abstraction. Truth is that there is only God and that God is Self. Self is undivided but perceives itself as divided or rather variegated not to be alone. It is not good to be alone. The answer to the 'what is life' question is perplexingly simple. Life is Self desiring Love, i.e., there is only Oneself desiring Companionship which results in Self perceiving itself as Man and Woman to Love and Be Loved in return.
