By now, it should be known that consciousness is just another term for God. Naturally, consciousness is universal for it manifests itself as the universe. And yes, it is one without a second. The answer to the question pertaining to the purpose of consciousness is to love and be loved, or, to be more precise, to physically experience love itself. It is this need that drives its own evolution. Now that the above is clear, we can simply replace the word consciousness with self.
