If Self fully recognized itself behind every face, every moment, every loss; all of suffering would instantly dissolve. So would all longing. So would all relationship. That's why the veil cannot be thin all the time. If the veil lifts too much: no drama, no discovery, no encounter. If it thickens too much: only suffering, no meaning, no light.
